Two gas cylinders explode during house fire in Chennai
A house caught fire in Chennai's Mogappair West on the morning of October 11, followed by explosions of two gas cylinders inside. The Times of India reported no injuries.
Geetha, a 40-year-old flower vendor, lived in the house with her son and daughter. Police said the daughter was alone inside and asleep when thick smoke woke her. She ran outside and alerted neighbours.
Flames spread rapidly through the house. The cylinders exploded one after another, prompting neighbours to leave their homes. Fire crews from Ambattur Industrial Estate and J.J. Nagar attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Geetha reported losing gold jewellery and 1.60 lakh rupees in cash, equivalent to 160,000 rupees, that had been kept in a cupboard. The Hindu attributed those details of the losses to her complaint. Ambattur Industrial Estate police registered a case and are investigating the cause of the fire.
