Courier detained during 2.7 million rouble transfer in Cheboksary

A woman suspected of collecting money from telephone fraud victims was detained in Cheboksary during a 2.7 million rouble transfer, the regional Federal Security Service said.
The money was being handed over by a local resident who, according to the agency, had previously given fraudsters more than 17 million roubles. Investigators say the courier flew from St Petersburg on instructions from handlers.
The agency links her activity to a job she found in May 2026. It alleges that she also collected 2 million roubles in the Vologda region and one million in the Kemerovo region.
According to investigators, the funds were converted into cryptocurrency through exchange services in St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The woman allegedly retained part of the money as payment.
A case was opened under Article 159, part 4 of Russia's Criminal Code, concerning particularly large-scale fraud. The suspect was remanded in custody. The account describes investigators' allegations and reports no conviction.
