Daniil Chaika signs one-season deal with Sibir

The defenceman joins the Novosibirsk club after his contract with Avangard was terminated.

Defenceman Daniil Chaika has signed a one-season, two-way contract with Sibir, Sport-Express reported. The 23-year-old had previously left Avangard: the Omsk club terminated the contract, which had been signed in September, by mutual agreement on October 7.

Chaika made seven appearances for Avangard in the current FONBET KHL Championship season and recorded no points. He previously played for CSKA and the Henderson Silver Knights, Vegas’s American Hockey League affiliate. Sibir’s transfer table has recorded other offseason arrivals, but the club had not posted a separate announcement about Chaika’s signing at the time of publication.

A two-way deal allows a player to be used by a club’s main and second teams under league rules. For Sibir, the agreement provides another defensive option; for Chaika, it marks a new stage after a short spell in Omsk.
