Mysuru launches book chariot to promote Kannada literature

A book chariot promoting reading and Kannada literature set out in Mysuru on October 9 as part of Dasara celebrations. Speakers at the launch urged younger people to keep books and reading in their lives.

Writer and State Intelligence Department DIG Dr. Dharanidevi Malagatti flagged off the Dasara Kannada Book Fair chariot in front of Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple. The launch was organized by the Kannada and Culture Department, Mysuru Dasara Mahotsava Committee, and Kannada Book Authority.

Malagatti compared the Kannada Book Authority to a chariot travelling from place to place to spread literature and bring people closer to books. She described book worship as part of local tradition and said reading helps develop a person’s personality.

Additional Regional Commissioner Dr. P. Shivaraju pointed to the growing attraction of digital media for younger generations and urged them to cultivate a habit of reading. He said books could help guide young people and society in a positive direction.

Kannada Book Authority President Dr. Manasa, department Joint Director S. Nirmala Mathapati, and Mysuru District Library Deputy Director Sama B. Kodihalli also attended. Star of Mysore reported that the book fair itself is scheduled for October 11–20 at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Grounds.
