Indian opposition leader calls for inquiry into voter-roll revision

Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to be removed and asked India’s Supreme Court to order an inquiry into the contested SIR process.
K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the Indian party Bharat Rashtra Samithi and widely known as KTR, said there should be an independent investigation into the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In a social media post on October 9, he urged the Supreme Court to take up the matter on its own and assign the inquiry to a sitting judge.
Rama Rao also demanded the removal of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The politician alleges irregularities in the SIR procedure and said the country’s Constitution and citizens’ right to vote must take precedence over the interests of any officeholder. These are the politician’s claims and do not constitute court findings or established facts.
The party said it planned to hold a protest on October 10 outside the office of Telangana’s chief electoral officer. Bharat Rashtra Samithi said it was seeking an independent review of the voter-roll revision process.
