In Datafolha’s first poll on a possible Brazilian presidential runoff, 46% of respondents said they would not vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The figure for Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro was 43%.

The survey was conducted from October 6 to 8 among 2,520 voters. Its margin of error is two percentage points in either direction. Folha de S.Paulo and TV Globo commissioned the poll, which was registered with Brazil’s electoral court under code BR-02949/2026.

Another 3% said they rejected both candidates, while 8% said they rejected neither. Folha’s report described the findings as evidence of high polarization in the campaign. The figures measure stated rejection, not how respondents would divide their votes in a hypothetical runoff.

In the first round, held on October 4, Flávio Bolsonaro received 47.03% of valid votes and Lula received 45.16%, Folha reported. Neither won a majority, so the two advanced to a runoff scheduled for October 25, according to the Associated Press.
