Delhi police review protest videos as possible assault case is considered

Delhi police are analysing mobile phone footage to identify people at a Congress protest near Jantar Mantar who are accused of assaulting officers and obstructing their work. Sources say a separate case is being considered.

Police said they were reviewing videos, including footage that allegedly shows women officers and constables being assaulted. The material is being examined to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved. The allegations have not been proven in court.

The probe follows Congress protests on Tuesday and Wednesday against a revision of electoral rolls. About 90 people, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, were detained on Wednesday after they tried to proceed towards the protest site. Both leaders were later released.

Police also asked an online platform to remove or restrict access to 11 posts and videos, saying they selectively showed police action and omitted preceding confrontations and attempts to cross barricades. That is the police account, not a finding by a court.

A separate case was registered the previous day over the alleged entry of Congress leaders and supporters into Akashvani Bhawan on October 6. Police said two security guards were injured during the attempt to enter the building. The investigation into the latest Jantar Mantar incident is ongoing.
