PTI reports fresh threats against protesters in central Delhi
Men carrying sticks threatened demonstrators in central Delhi on October 11, the PTI news agency reported. The incidents came a day after an alleged assault on protesters on DDU Marg.
According to the agency, the men moved around Connaught Place, where demonstrations were demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. Protesters oppose alleged irregularities in the Election Commission's work and its Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Reports of fresh threats followed the arrest of four men in connection with the October 10 assault. Police named them as Raman Saini, 50, Vivekanand, also known as Vivek, 32, Kapil Kumar, 27, and Ravinder Singh, also known as Govind Hindu, 35.
A circulated recording of Saturday's incident reportedly showed an assault on a man and the manhandling of a woman. Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi shared an image from the recording.
Hindu Raksha Dal chief Pinki Chaudhary claimed on X that the attackers belonged to his organisation. That is the organisation leader's own assertion and does not replace the findings of the police investigation.
The agency described the fresh threats as separate incidents on Sunday. The arrests concern the alleged assault the previous day rather than a court finding of guilt covering all the incidents.
