Disney discusses Infinity Vision film promotion with rival studios

Walt Disney has held talks with Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate and Sony Pictures Entertainment about promoting their films under Infinity Vision. Bloomberg reports preliminary studio interest, citing people familiar with the discussions.
Some participants want to assess the brand's results with Avengers: Doomsday before deciding, according to the report. Disney's film is scheduled for release on December 18. Expressions of interest do not amount to signed agreements with the studios.
Infinity Vision brings existing large-screen cinema formats, including AMC XL and Cinemark XD, under a shared certification. It sets requirements for auditoriums rather than providing a separate filmmaking technology. Its official description calls for large screens, laser projection and immersive sound.
Bloomberg's report, as described by RBC, says about 5,500 screens worldwide could meet the requirements, roughly three times the number of IMAX locations. The report specifies screens about 15 metres wide and Dolby 7.1 sound.
The December release calendar helped motivate the brand's development. Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three is scheduled for the same weekend and already has an IMAX exhibition agreement. Avengers: Doomsday therefore does not have exclusive access to those screens.
