A ticket examiner on a Belagavi–Mysuru train noticed a passenger acting suspiciously. Railway Protection Force officials said the detained man admitted stealing a bag containing a laptop and other valuables from another train.

Passenger Abhishek reported the missing bag through Rail Madad while travelling on Train No. 16585 from Holenarsipur to Mangaluru. He noticed it was missing from his berth and suspected it had disappeared somewhere between Holenarsipur and Sakleshpur.

The bag contained a Lenovo laptop valued at about ₹80,000, a charger, a gold chain, a wristwatch and identity cards. During checks on Train No. 17302, the Belagavi–Mysuru service, ticket examiner Chandra Nayak noticed a passenger behaving suspiciously and handed him over to the RPF outpost at K.R. Nagar.

The railway said the man, identified as Basavaraj, admitted to stealing the bag from Train No. 16585 on the section between Holenarsipur and Hassan. He was handed to the Government Railway Police for further investigation and legal action.

After the belongings were verified, they were returned to Abhishek. South Western Railway praised Nayak’s alertness and advised passengers to keep watch over their valuables. Losses, thefts and other security concerns can be reported through Rail Madad at 139 or to railway staff and RPF personnel.
