Elbrus cable car to remain closed on October 11 after cable damage

The Elbrus resort cable car will remain closed on October 11 while crews repair a damaged communications cable. Resort officials said passengers were evacuated after the stoppage and no one was injured.
According to the resort, a contractor's excavator damaged the cable on the slope during construction work on October 9. The administration announced the closure of all cable cars for technical work that day.
Officials said rescuers completed the evacuation within the required time. They added that staff regularly practise vertical evacuation techniques, which were used during the incident.
On October 10, the resort announced that the cable car would remain out of service on Sunday following Saturday's closure, bringing the disruption to at least three consecutive days.
Repairs are continuing, but officials have not provided a precise reopening time. The administration said it would announce the restart separately and apologised to visitors. Kommersant and Caucasian Knot also reported the Sunday closure.
