Igor Korneev says Maksim Glushenkov is playing at half his potential

Igor Korneev believes Maksim Glushenkov is performing at about 50 percent of his potential. In an interview published by Sport-Express on October 10, he attributed that assessment mainly to the Zenit player's motivation.
Korneev acknowledged that Glushenkov's statistics still placed him among the Russian Premier League's leading players. He nevertheless argued that the midfielder could perform substantially better and said the current form was not the player's best version.
He criticised some of Glushenkov's appearances for the national team and said he hoped the player would return to a higher level. Asked which Russian league players were impressing him, Korneev singled out Konstantin Tyukavin and Egas Cacintura.
On a possible move to a European club, Korneev suggested that Glushenkov's substantial Zenit salary could reduce his interest in making that step. He added that he hoped his assessment of the player's ambitions was wrong. These were Korneev's views, rather than a report of negotiations or a decision by the player.
Sport-Express listed Glushenkov's 2026/27 league figures as 8 appearances, 6 goals and 2 assists. Korneev's 50 percent assessment described his personal impression, rather than a measured performance statistic.
