The lawmaker told CNN Brasil a federation could have helped PSOL clear the electoral threshold and win more seats in Congress. She also called her future in the party uncertain.

Brazilian federal lawmaker Erika Hilton said a federation between PSOL and the Workers’ Party (PT) could have helped her party clear the electoral threshold and expand its representation in Congress. She told CNN Brasil on Tuesday, October 6, after being reelected in the October 4 election.

Hilton said PSOL misallocated campaign funds, directing resources to candidates with weaker prospects instead of states where the party could have won seats. She said the party needed to discuss the results and its mistakes. Failure to meet the electoral threshold could cost PSOL access to the Party Fund and free radio and television airtime.

Hilton said her own future in PSOL was uncertain. She had supported a federation with the PT to expand the left’s presence in states dominated by right-wing and far-right parties. She said any move to another party should be discussed within the organization.
