Estonian court ends Orthodox church lease dispute with Tallinn

Estonia’s Supreme Court has declined to hear the Estonian Christian Orthodox Church’s cassation appeal in its lease dispute with Tallinn over premises at 64 Pikk Street. The ruling upholding the lease termination has entered into force, ERR reported.

The Civil Chamber refused the appeal on October 19, 2026, finding no statutory grounds to hear it. That decision cannot be appealed.

The church had challenged the termination of its open-ended lease. Harju County Court dismissed its claim on August 29, 2025, and Tallinn Circuit Court upheld that ruling on June 12, 2026.

The city and church representatives are now agreeing on a deadline for vacating the premises, according to ERR.
