Fire crews protect railway settlement in Khabarovsk region

Fire crews removed the threat of a landscape fire spreading to a railway workers' settlement in Russia's Khabarovsk region. The Emergencies Ministry reported the result after ground crews and a helicopter responded.
The fire was reported on October 13 about a kilometre from the 18 Razyezd station in the Amur district. The settlement has 16 houses, roughly a third of them occupied. It is remote from other settlements and surrounded by forest and marshland.
A Mi-8 helicopter brought regional fire-service personnel from Khabarovsk. A firefighting train was also dispatched from Litovko station.
The helicopter crew made eight water drops totalling 24 tonnes. By evening, the ministry said, the threat to the buildings had been removed. Removing the threat to the settlement does not mean the entire landscape fire was fully extinguished.
