Fire engulfs building at Brazil’s Federal University of Pernambuco

A fire broke out at a building of the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife on October 7. Firefighters deployed five vehicles, and no casualties had been reported.

A student in the university’s pedagogy program shared video showing the building engulfed in flames. A separate image showed a large plume of smoke. She told CNN Brasil that her academic materials and projects were inside the building and had burned. Her account was the only report of losses included in the article.

The fire service sent five vehicles to tackle the blaze and said there were no victims at the scene. The incident was still ongoing when the report was published. Authorities had not yet determined the cause. CNN Brasil said it would publish further information as firefighters made progress.
