Queensland driver fined after five children found unrestrained
A 36-year-old woman was issued A$6,993 in fines after police allegedly found five children without appropriate restraints in a speeding van in Redbank, Queensland.
Police said they stopped a white Hyundai iMax on Brisbane Road at about 4 p.m. on October 9 after recording a speed of 77 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Details were released on October 12.
The children were aged between four months and nine years. Police allege that the four-month-old baby was being held by a five-year-old child in the rear of the vehicle.
The driver incurred 23 demerit points and was charged with driving without a licence. She was issued a notice to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 29.
Senior Sergeant Jarrad Tyne of Ipswich Highway Patrol said the circumstances were deeply concerning and urged drivers to use appropriate restraints for every child on every journey.
