Moscow completes high-pressure gas pipeline ahead of connection
Construction of nearly 1.5 kilometres of high-pressure gas pipeline through central and western Moscow is complete, with the facility ready to be connected to the network.
RIA Novosti reported the completion on October 12, citing the city government. Stroitelnaya Gazeta also quoted Mosgaz’s press service confirming that the pipeline was ready for connection. Neither announcement says it has begun operating.
Mosgaz designed the project for densely built-up neighbourhoods, including historic areas where the route crosses roads and existing utility infrastructure. More than 95% of the pipeline was installed by microtunnelling, reducing the need for large open excavations.
The builders used domestically manufactured steel pipes with a diameter of 1000 millimetres. Almost the entire route is enclosed in reinforced-concrete and steel casings for additional protection.
Specialists at Mosgaz’s Moscow city centre for testing the physical and mechanical properties of construction materials checked the materials. Inspection specialists also examined pipe joints. The project provides spare capacity for future consumers, according to the city’s announcement.
