Floodwater damages homes in Koreiz as seven residents are evacuated

Heavy rain has flooded homes and partially damaged foundations on Tokmakovykh Street in Koreiz, near Yalta. Seven people, including a child, have been evacuated from the flooded area, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said.

Rescuers are building temporary barriers to limit further erosion and flooding. Sandbags are being delivered continuously.

The Uzen-Cheshme River overflowed near Rodnikovaya Street, according to the ministry. Two retaining walls collapsed on Tokmakovykh Street and the South Coast Highway. Three evacuees were accommodated at a temporary shelter.

In Yalta itself, a retaining wall collapsed at the trolleybus depot. Water at the site reached half a meter deep.

A storm warning has been in force since October 17. Yalta has received more than 400 millimeters of rain, and a municipal emergency has been declared. More than 180 people and 38 vehicles and other pieces of equipment are involved in the response.
