South Bengaluru residents oppose elevated road beside Metro corridor

At least 150 south Bengaluru residents formed a human chain near R. V. Road Metro station on October 11 to oppose the proposed Ragigudda–Kanakapura Road elevated corridor. They called for the project to be dropped and public transport improved, The Hindu reported.

The demonstration lasted 45 minutes and involved members of several residents' associations. Participants requested more frequent Green Line trains, better connections to stations and parking facilities.

They asked project agency B-SMILE to consider alternatives. Tenders were issued in August, after which residents examined the detailed project report and consulted transport specialists.

Participants fear construction could affect homes, parks and the water pipeline network supplying south Bengaluru. They named green spaces near Thalaghattapura and Gubbalala lakes and along Kanakapura Road among the areas at risk.
