Yekaterinburg court remands 11 defendants in public transport theft case

A Yekaterinburg court placed 11 defendants accused of theft and hooliganism in custody, the Sverdlovsk region's courts press service reported on October 11.

Leninsky District Court ordered five defendants held until December 5 and the remaining six until December 6, 2026. The group comprises five women and six men from Perm.

Investigators allege the defendants came to Yekaterinburg to steal passengers' property on public transport. They face charges relating to theft and hooliganism committed by an organised group.

According to the investigation, property worth more than 230,000 roubles was stolen on October 6 alone. Investigators also allege that violence was used against a passenger and a conductor.

The regional Investigative Committee said it was establishing the circumstances of the alleged offences and checking for further incidents and possible accomplices. Its management is overseeing the investigation.
