Restaurant near Vijayamangalam tollgate has food safety licence suspended

Authorities in India have temporarily suspended the food safety licence of a restaurant near Vijayamangalam tollgate after an inspection found unhygienic conditions, The Hindu reported, citing an October 10 district administration statement.

Inspectors visited the establishment in Perundurai taluk on October 9. The administration said its kitchen, food storage facilities and sales areas were operating under unhygienic conditions.

Officials seized about 60 packets of popcorn carrying incomplete food safety labelling. They also sent seven food samples to a laboratory for analysis. The administration's statement did not report the laboratory findings.

The restaurant received a notice directing it to stop sales. Officials are initiating further proceedings before the District Adjudicating Officer, alleging that the establishment failed to take corrective action despite repeated inspection notices.

The inspection forms part of a wider programme of restaurant checks across the district. The published statement does not identify the restaurant or specify how long the licence suspension will last.
