Yo Mahesh pledges selection stability for Tamil Nadu's Ranji campaign

New Tamil Nadu coach Yo Mahesh said on October 10 that he would reduce frequent selection changes as the team opened its Ranji Trophy campaign against Rajasthan in Jaipur.
The Sawai Mansingh Stadium fixture was scheduled for October 11. Rajasthan also opposed Tamil Nadu in the 2011-12 final, giving the opening contest a connection to a previous title opportunity. Tamil Nadu last won the tournament in 1988.
Mahesh said repeated changes in recent seasons had undermined players' confidence. His priority is to create a secure environment and find a combination that can be trusted through the campaign, rather than continually reshaping a talented squad.
Developing the young pace attack is a particular challenge. The Hindu reported that all-rounder Sonu Yadav, its most experienced member, had played only 10 first-class matches. Mahesh believes the emerging bowlers need time before becoming a dependable foundation for several seasons.
India all-rounder Washington Sundar joined the squad on October 9, while Esakkimuthu replaced the injured Pranav Ragavendra. Sundar gives the coach additional choices with both bat and ball.
In a separate interview with The New Indian Express, Mahesh said he and captain Sai Kishore agreed on selection and strategy. Preparations included a camp and practice matches in Chennai before training in Jaipur.
