A Moscow district court ordered Nikolai Posokhov held in custody for two months. Two sources close to the investigation told RBC that investigators had sought to tighten his detention conditions in a major bribery case.
Posokhov headed the Research Center for Protective Measures at the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations. He had been under house arrest since January. An investigator with the Moscow branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee asked the court to remand him in custody.
Former deputy head of the institute Igor Sosunov was also charged in the case. He was jailed soon after his detention, and his arrest has since been extended several times.
RBC said it had requested comment from the Moscow City Court. Its report did not include a response. The charge was filed under Part 6 of Article 290 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which concerns taking a bribe on a particularly large scale.
The institute develops equipment and technology for civil defense, emergency prevention and response, as well as public alert and communications systems. Posokhov previously told RBC that the institute began developing the Kub-M modular protective shelter for the Emergency Situations Ministry in 2015. Serial production began in autumn 2024.
