South Africa’s Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is interviewing candidates for the post of Deputy Judge President of the Eastern Cape High Court. Four judges are competing for the vacancy.
Judge Fathima Bibi Adam Dawood was the first candidate to appear before the commission. She has served as a permanent High Court judge for 18 years, joining the Eastern Cape bench in July 2008.
Dawood said that, if appointed, she would focus on supporting the Judge President, strengthening accountability and public service, and maintaining confidence in the administration of justice.
She described the deputy role as collaborative and subordinate to the Judge President’s leadership. Dawood said she would work with the Acting Judge President to build institutional cohesion, help implement the court’s strategic objectives and ensure judicial and administrative processes serve litigants, the legal profession and the wider community effectively.
