Gazinsky says Krasnodar players should choose their captain

Yury Gazinsky said a team should choose its own captain, commenting to Sport-Express on October 14 about Jhon Cordoba’s captaincy at Krasnodar following remarks by Nikita Krivtsov.
Gazinsky described Cordoba as one of the team’s leaders and suggested that his playing role explained the choice of captain. The former Krasnodar player said it would be wrong to describe the appointment as unfair.
He recalled that a foreign player, Andreas Granqvist, had also captained Krasnodar during his time at the club. Gazinsky said nationality itself should not determine the choice, although he would favour a Russian-speaking player when considering a suitable candidate.
He stressed that this preference did not mean Cordoba was undeserving. Gazinsky argued that the players should have an opportunity to decide on their captain themselves.
Cordoba has played for Krasnodar since 2021. The Sport-Express report listed six appearances and two goals for the forward this season.
