St Petersburg court remands man accused of killing his mother

St Petersburg’s Nevsky District Court remanded 19-year-old Ivan Yumatov in custody on October 14 in a case concerning his mother’s killing, the city courts’ joint press service said.

Investigators said the woman’s body was found during the afternoon of October 11 in an apartment on Dmitry Ustinov Street. She had multiple knife wounds to her chest and back and died at the scene.

Her son was detained on suspicion of the killing. Yumatov has been charged under Part 1 of Article 105 of Russia’s Criminal Code, covering murder.

The judicial press service said the accused had admitted guilt. Fontanka, citing the same press service, reported that his period in custody was set to run until December 11.

The court’s decision concerns a preventive measure during the proceedings. It is not a conviction, and an admission does not replace the court’s consideration of the charge on its merits.
