Hyundai’s cumulative India sales approach 10 million

Hyundai’s cumulative domestic sales in India reached about 9.88 million vehicles through the third quarter of 2026. At the current pace, the total is expected to exceed 10 million before year-end, Yonhap reported, citing industry data.

Local production and sales began in 1998 with the Santro minicar built at Chennai. The company later expanded its Indian range with i10 and i20 hatchbacks, the Verna, Creta, Exter and Alcazar models, and the electric Creta EV.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers data show Hyundai’s annual sales in the country first exceeded 500,000 vehicles in 2016. Sales reached 605,433 in 2024.

In 2025, Hyundai sold 398,937 SUVs in India, accounting for about 70% of its sales there. Yonhap reported that Hyundai Motor chief executive Jose Munoz set an objective in August to increase the SUV share to 80% by 2030.

The expected 10-million milestone refers to accumulated sales in India over the company’s operating history. It is neither an annual sales figure nor a count of vehicles exported from India, and it had not been reached by the end of the third quarter.
