Ingushetia reports improvement in 104-year-old stroke patient's condition

Regional authorities said the man was recovering after a second severe stroke. Discharge remains conditional on continued improvement.

The patient entered the Ingush Republican Clinical Hospital on October 8 with an ischaemic stroke. He spent the first day in intensive care at the regional vascular centre in a critical condition. According to the regional government, he regained consciousness on the second day and began trying to answer questions.

Vascular neurology department head Aza Barkinkhoyeva said he had suffered his first stroke five years earlier. Existing cardiovascular and lung conditions complicated treatment. Staff moved him to a specialist ward after stabilising his condition.

A rehabilitation physician, speech therapist, psychologist, cardiologist and physical therapy instructors are now involved in his recovery. In its October 13 report, the government said his condition continued to improve. Doctors plan to discharge him with rehabilitation advice if that progress continues.
