Buryatia reports pregnant patient's recovery after cardiac arrest
A woman who underwent emergency surgery in Ulan-Ude in September is recovering, the regional health ministry said.
The patient arrived unconscious at the City Perinatal Centre. According to the ministry, she had internal bleeding: surgeons found more than two litres of blood in her abdomen and estimated total blood loss at 7.5 litres.
Doctors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for eight minutes after her heart stopped. The operation lasted three hours. They used blood reinfusion, collecting, cleaning and returning the patient's own blood to help replace the loss.
Histological examination identified a dissecting aneurysm of the splenic artery. The diagnosis and blood-loss estimates come from the medical institutions' account, also reported by local outlet Inform Polis.
The patient was later transferred to the Nikolai Semashko Republican Clinical Hospital. The account published on October 13 describes an improvement in her condition but does not announce her discharge.
