Kalinskaya withdraws from Wuhan Open because of illness
Anna Kalinskaya has withdrawn from the Wuhan Open because of illness, according to the official WTA singles draw updated on October 12.
The Russian was due to face China’s Zhang Shuai in the opening round. American Ashlyn Krueger takes her place as a lucky loser, entering the main draw despite losing in qualifying.
The draw gives illness as Kalinskaya’s reason for withdrawing but does not specify a diagnosis or a timetable for her return.
Mirra Andreeva had also withdrawn, with a change of schedule listed as the reason. That is a separate withdrawal and is not attributed to illness.
The WTA 1000 event runs from October 12 to 18 on hard courts. The official draw lists total prize money of $4,088,211.
