Andreeva and Zheng withdraw from Wuhan after Beijing final
Mirra Andreeva and Zheng Qinwen have withdrawn from the Wuhan Open after facing each other in Sunday's Beijing final, the WTA announced on October 12.
Andreeva cited a change of schedule. Zheng withdrew with a right-shoulder injury and also described fatigue after playing the U.S. Open, the Billie Jean King Cup and the China Open.
Iva Jovic takes Andreeva's place in the draw and will begin in the second round. Camila Osorio replaces Zheng. The withdrawals therefore change the previously announced lineup.
Andreeva rose to third in the world rankings on Monday. She qualified for the WTA Finals on October 9, and the association lists that event as her next tournament. It is scheduled for November 8–15 in Indian Wells.
Wuhan's WTA 1000 tournament runs from October 12 to 18, with prize money exceeding $4 million. Russian players remaining in the main draw include Diana Shnaider, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Anna Kalinskaya and Liudmila Samsonova.
