Krasnodar region raises readiness over possible oil spill near two Black Sea cities

Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev introduced a heightened readiness regime on October 13 because of the risk of an oil-products spill affecting Novorossiysk and Gelendzhik.

The order applies to the regional emergency system’s management bodies and response forces. It identifies the two municipalities as the potential boundaries of a regional emergency following October 6 attacks on vessels in the Black Sea.

Response teams are to strengthen environmental monitoring and monitoring of dangerous conditions. Round-the-clock duty by senior officials may be introduced if needed.

The Azov–Black Sea branch of the Marine Rescue Service was advised to take measures to prevent oil products reaching shore. Deputy Governor Sergey Lagutin was assigned responsibility for prevention measures.

The readiness regime addresses a possible emergency. According to the regional operational headquarters, citing the Marine Rescue Service, no new oil-products spills had been detected in the Black Sea at the time of its October 13 update.
