Zenit ends Malik Newman’s contract after three games

St Petersburg basketball club Zenit announced on October 13 that it had ended its association with American guard Malik Newman. He played three VTB United League games for the team.

Newman joined the club in late September. According to the club’s press service, the parties agreed to terminate his contract.

Before moving to Zenit, he signed with Dynamo Vladivostok in July. Two months later the club announced his departure, without him having played an official game for the team.

Newman previously played in the VTB United League for Saratov’s Avtodor. He was the league’s leading scorer in the 2022/23 season and took part in its All-Star Game.

In 2014, he won the youth world championship with the United States and received the most valuable player award. He played in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2020. The departure announcement did not name his next club.
