South Korean and Egyptian presidents set to discuss economic ties in Seoul

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi are due to meet in Seoul on Thursday, October 8. Their agenda includes trade, investment, infrastructure, supply chains and international affairs.

El-Sisi arrived in South Korea on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, his first trip to the country since 2016. After an official welcome, the presidents are scheduled to hold summit talks, attend an agreement-signing ceremony and joint press briefing, and take part in a state luncheon, Lee’s office said.

The leaders are also expected to discuss people-to-people exchanges, regional developments and international issues. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said Seoul hopes the visit will help turn South Korea-Egypt ties into a strategic partnership and strengthen South Korea’s cooperation with Africa and the Middle East.

Lee and el-Sisi last met in November during the South Korean president’s visit to Egypt. The Seoul summit is part of the Egyptian leader’s state visit.
