Bengaluru court jails forest officer for three years in assets case

M.S. Ravikumar was also fined 13.8 million rupees in a case Karnataka’s Lokayukta opened in 2014.

Judge C.M. Pushpalatha delivered the verdict on Oct. 5. The court found Ravikumar guilty of possessing assets that were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Lokayukta investigation put the unexplained assets at 13,529,714.37 rupees. Its Bengaluru City Police Station registered the case on June 9, 2014, under sections 13(1)(e) and 13(2) of India’s Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.

Ravikumar had served as an assistant conservator of forests in the Forest Department’s planning branch at Aranya Bhavan in Bengaluru’s Malleswaram area. Prosecutors later filed a chargesheet in the Lokayukta Special Court. If he does not pay the fine, he will serve an additional year in simple imprisonment.
