Luzhniki adds running route around its main stadium

A 1.1-kilometre running route has been created around the main stadium at Moscow's Luzhniki sports complex, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on October 11.

The track has a professional athletics surface and distance markers every 100 metres. The area around the stadium is now reserved for athletes and pedestrians.

A drinking fountain has been installed on Central Square. Showers are available at the Southern and Northern sports centres, the Sports Town and changing-room pavilions serving the football pitches. Lockers are available in the Southern centre and one of the pavilions.

Free running sessions under the My Sports District programme take place on Luzhnetskaya Embankment. An outdoor exercise area is planned between the Southern sports centre and the metro bridge by the end of 2026, including equipment for people with disabilities.

Children's areas themed around running, figure skating, tennis and basketball are also planned along the embankment and near the centre. Work near Festival Square has already begun.
