Pakistan army reports one soldier and 12 opponents killed in Kurram clash
Pakistan's army said on October 11 that one of its soldiers died in a clash in the border district of Kurram. It reported killing 12 militants and Afghan Taliban personnel.
The military's media wing, ISPR, said security forces detected a group attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan and engaged it. Radio Pakistan and Geo News, citing the military statement, dated the infiltration attempt to October 10. This clarifies the event date in Dawn's initial account, which referred to Sunday.
ISPR alleged that Afghan Taliban posts opened fire in support of the group. The statement did not break down the reported 12 deaths by affiliation. These claims about the opposing forces and their losses come from Pakistan's military.
The soldier killed was identified as Hidayat Aman. State news agency APP reported that he was 40 and lived in Ghizer district. The army said a search operation was continuing in the area. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi offered condolences to the soldier's family.
