Magyar and Zelensky agree to continue talks on ethnic Hungarian rights

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to continue ministerial talks on the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Zakarpattia. They met at the EU summit in Brussels on October 16.
Magyar said Hungary was ready to use diplomatic means to secure an early ceasefire and lasting peace. He linked further work to discussions of minority rights and rebuilding bilateral relations.
The Ukrainian presidency said the leaders discussed Ukraine’s EU accession, trade and agricultural products. Zelensky thanked Hungary for supporting the opening of two more EU accession negotiating clusters.
Before the meeting, Magyar had discussed holding fuller talks in Zakarpattia. The Ukrainian presidency’s account of the meeting said the leaders agreed to exchange visits. Their teams are to work on dates for the trips.
