Magyar denies considering resignation alongside minister Kapitany

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said on October 14 that neither he nor Economy and Energy Minister Istvan Kapitany was considering resignation. Kapitany separately denied reports of a possible departure.
Magyar posted his response on Facebook after reports about developments at the economy and energy ministry. He accused HVG of publishing information that, he said, had already been denied.
The ministry had announced the previous evening that energy policy state secretary Andras Totth had resigned. Its official explanation cited personal reasons. That confirmed personnel change is separate from the denied reports involving the minister or prime minister.
Index, citing sources, linked Totth’s departure partly to a conflict with Kapitany. HVG reported that the minister himself had considered resigning. These remain press accounts rather than an established explanation for the state secretary’s departure.
In September, Kapitany said Hungary would be ready to stop purchasing Russian gas from October 2027 if required by the European Commission. He argued that the country would find alternative supplies.
