Sundowns win MTN8 final to end Pirates' title streak

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the MTN8 final in Durban on October 10. Pirates were denied a fifth consecutive title.

The final was played before a capacity crowd at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Teboho Mokoena put Sundowns ahead in the eleventh minute, and Iqraam Rayners sealed the win with a penalty late in the game.

Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews was named player of the match. SABC reported that the club had last won the competition in 2021.

Orlando Pirates confirmed in their match report that their run of tournament victories had ended. Mokoena finished after a scramble in the penalty area, while Rayners beat goalkeeper Sipho Chaine from the spot. Pirates could not respond to either goal.
