About 3,500 women police officers deployed during Delhi protest, The Hindu reports
Officers wearing pink jackets staffed barricades, negotiated with demonstrators and carried out detentions on October 10, including personnel from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The Hindu cited Delhi Police figures putting the deployment of women personnel in central Delhi at about 3,500. They were stationed on Ashoka Road, Jantar Mantar Road, Janpath, Connaught Place and Kharak Singh Marg to prevent demonstrators from reaching the protest venue.
The newspaper's reporter observed women officers taking the lead in speaking to protesters, including young men. They directed pedestrians, intercepted groups and participated in detentions, while male officers largely stayed behind them.
At Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, women officers negotiated with demonstrators and the temple's management. Some protesters had sought shelter there to avoid detention. Women demonstrators were escorted away by women personnel.
The newspaper linked the approach to earlier allegations of police misconduct at other protests. Its account describes reported allegations and observations rather than a finding of guilt against individual officers.
