AfD youth board member resigns after expanded Germany map sparks criticism
Luca Maurice Strauf has left the federal board of Generation Deutschland. The organisation cited personal reasons after his deleted post prompted criticism abroad.
Strauf published the map on X for German Unity Day on October 3. It included Austria and territories belonging to several other European countries within an enlarged German state, including parts of Switzerland, France and Italy.
In the accompanying post, he described the 1990 reunification of East and West Germany as an intermediate victory. The publication drew accusations of revanchism and criticism in neighbouring countries.
Strauf later deleted the post and denied that the map represented territorial demands. He described it as a fantasy illustrating areas historically inhabited by German minorities, according to Bild.
Deutschlandfunk and n-tv reported the youth organisation's announcement of his resignation, which cited personal reasons. Generation Deutschland was founded in Giessen on November 29, 2025, following the dissolution of the AfD's previous youth organisation, Young Alternative.
