Masoud Pezeshkian proposes CIS plus one cooperation format

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian proposed a CIS+1 framework for cooperation between Tehran and Commonwealth of Independent States members at their summit in Turkmenistan on October 9.
According to Fars, Pezeshkian described a grouping of CIS countries and Iran as a flexible mechanism for dialogue and joint work. He emphasised the region's role in shaping a multipolar world and said security should rest on trust and shared interests.
Tasnim reported that the proposed framework could cover transport, energy, trade, investment and technology. Pezeshkian also identified water resources, environmental protection, tourism, and scientific and cultural exchanges as possible areas of cooperation.
The president pointed to Iranian ports as potential connections between Central Asia and international sea routes. He urged countries to view regional transport corridors as parts of a shared network. His remarks outlined an Iranian proposal, with no announcement that the new cooperation mechanism had been established.
