Maxim Oreshkin links low Russian unemployment to digital platforms

Deputy presidential administration chief Maxim Oreshkin said Russia’s unemployment rate was 2.2% during the Global Digital Forum. He described it as among the world’s lowest, RIA Novosti reported on October 10.

Oreshkin also described youth unemployment as low. RIA Novosti’s account did not provide a separate rate for that group. The international comparison was the speaker’s assessment.

He said digital platforms, including commerce and services providing additional employment, played a substantial role. In his view, they extend economic opportunities to remote areas and small settlements.

The second Global Digital Forum runs in Moscow from October 8 to 10. Oreshkin’s remarks address the labour market and the role of platforms rather than announcing a new government employment programme.
