Delhi reports enforcement action against 1,046 properties
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi took action against 1,046 properties involving illegal construction or unsafe buildings from September 6 to October 10. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's office released the campaign figures on October 11.
Officials said 282 properties were sealed and 47 dangerous buildings demolished during the period. These figures describe particular enforcement measures and do not mean that all remaining properties were demolished.
The campaign intensified after a September 6 building collapse in Satya Niketan killed seven people. The chief minister's office said enforcement covered all 12 municipal zones.
Rohini recorded the largest number of properties facing action, at 158, followed by the South zone with 121 and Shahdara North with 115. Karol Bagh recorded the highest number of dangerous-building demolitions, at 13.
Following a recent collapse in Seemapuri that killed five people, authorities also demolished an unsafe building in that area. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board issued notices concerning three other houses.
Gupta said the campaign would continue across all zones rather than being confined to particular neighbourhoods. Its stated purpose is to enforce building rules and reduce the risk of further collapses.
