Moscow and surrounding region placed under yellow wind warning

Forecasters warned that southwesterly gusts could reach 15 metres per second. The alert is in effect until the morning of October 10.

The Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia issued a yellow weather warning for Moscow and the surrounding region because of strong winds. Gusts of southwesterly wind could reach 15 metres per second during the day on October 9 and overnight into October 10.

Forecasters also described the expected wind as force seven on the Beaufort scale. The warning is due to remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 10.

The centre urged residents of the Moscow region to be alert for stronger winds. Rain and unsettled weather are also forecast in Moscow through the end of the week, meteorologist Tatyana Pozdnyakova said earlier.
