Survey: one in five respondents has no savings and does not plan to start

A poll of 6,400 adults across Russia found that 21% had no savings and no plans to begin building them, while the same share regularly added to a financial cushion.
The survey was conducted on October 5 and 6 by Roskachestvo and Finance Mail, according to TASS. Another 25% of respondents said they planned to start saving, and 34% already had savings but were not increasing them. Nearly half said they did not put money aside every month.
Among those who save, 21% set aside up to 10% of their income and roughly one in five saved between 10% and 20%. An emergency fund was the main goal for 54% of respondents. Housing ranked next at 13%, followed by travel at 9%. Medical care and retirement each drew 7%, a car 4% and education 1%.
When asked what would help them save, 55% pointed to higher incomes and 35% to lower required expenses, TASS reported. The survey included 6,400 people over 18 from across Russia. Its figures reflect respondents’ answers rather than an official count of household savings.
