Moscow checks nearly 1.3 million gas cookers in nine months

City services assessed cooker condition and safety compliance, Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said.

The inspections covered Moscow apartments from January through September 2026. Gas technicians fix minor faults on site. For serious problems, they first remove the immediate safety threat and then provide repair and operating recommendations.

Biryukov said the owner or tenant is responsible for equipment condition and replacement. He put the average cooker service life at 10–12 years, after which wear to valves, burners and oven insulation makes replacement an important consideration.

He also highlighted flame-failure protection, which shuts off the gas supply if a burner goes out. That equipment safeguard does not replace scheduled maintenance.

The city's gas-connected housing receives planned maintenance annually. Visit dates and times are published in advance on Mosgaz's website and noticeboards in apartment entrances and courtyards.
