Sturm cites discipline in decision to leave Zadorov out against Kings

Boston Bruins defenceman Nikita Zadorov missed the game against the Los Angeles Kings because coach Marco Sturm wanted better discipline from him.

Sturm described Zadorov as an important player and team leader but said his penalties had been a recurring subject of discussion. The coach said the defenceman was unhappy with the decision but could improve after the message.

Zadorov took 6 penalty minutes in Boston's preceding 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. That included a double minor following a confrontation with Frank Vatrano late in the second period. The Bruins killed the penalty and later tied the game on a power play.

Sturm viewed Zadorov's fight in the October 14 game against the San Jose Sharks differently. Boston won 6-3, and the coach considered the fight helpful rather than a problem.

Before the Kings game, Zadorov had 29 penalty minutes and 7 minor penalties. Boston beat Los Angeles 4-1 without him.
